BUSES will be back in Bradley and Meltham at night in time for Christmas.

Drivers for First Huddersfield agreed to drive into the areas after 6pm again from this Thursday.

But if there any more problems the buses may be withdrawn again.

They had stopped after robbers struck in both areas.

But police inquiries have given drivers the confidence to again drive onto the Sunny Heys estate in Meltham after 6pm and along Keldregate and Bradley Road in Bradley.

A man has been charged with a robbery in Bradley.

Joseph Cummings, 41, of Riddings Close, Sheepridge, was charged with robbing First Bus driver Eric Abbott of £75 in Keldregate on Monday last week.

He has been remanded in custody.

First Huddersfield business director Graham Riley said the drivers agreed to run the Meltham and Bradley routes again after a meeting yesterday.

This means the 321 and 324 buses in Meltham and the 327 and 328 services in Bradley will be fully resumed on Thursday.

Mr Riley said: "All the buses on these routes will have CCTV cameras in board.

"The drivers expressed their reservations, but are willing to go along with us for a probationary period.

"We are grateful for the support the police have had from people living in these areas who have come forward with information.

"That has gone a long way towards reassuring the drivers.

"It is very brave of them to go back and serve the communities. We fully understand their families' concern for their safety," added Mr Riley.
