A YOUNG man critically hurt after he was attacked outside a nightclub has died.

Detectives confirmed early this morning that a murder inquiry was now under way after the victim lost his fight for life in hospital just before midnight last night.

The 22-year-old suffered severe injuries in the incident outside the HQ nightclub on Huddersfield Road in the centre of Mirfield just after midnight on Saturday morning.

He had been transferred from Dewsbury District Hospital to Leeds General Infirmary, where he had specialist surgery in a bid to save his life.

Police say they expected to name the dead man later today. He comes from Mirfield.

After the attack police arrested four Mirfield teenagers.

Police also sealed off a number of homes in the area while detailed forensic searches were carried out.

Officers were still questioning two of the teenagers today.

One is aged just 15 and the other is 18.

The other two who were detained and questioned are 18.

One has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. The other has been released without charge.

A police spokeswoman said: “The coroner's office has been informed and a post-mortem is due to be carried out later today.

“We are continuing to appeal for information.’’
