FORMER Huddersfield nightclub Heaven and Hell is up for sale.

The club, based at the Co-op building on New Street, has been placed on the market for sale or lease by its owners, Blackpool-based Entrepreneurial Leisure Ltd.

The club - one of a string of Heaven and Hells across the north of England - closed last November, just two years after opening.

Entrepreneurial Leisure Ltd chief executive Peter Clarke said the club had made good profits for the first year but trade had drifted away and it was losing money.

Mr Clarke, 45, of Blackburn, said at the time that the loss of trade was due to three factors - the management of the club, the effect of past rowdy behaviour on its reputation and the fact that it is not on the main town centre `circuit' of pubs.

Mr Clarke said in November that his company was undecided whether to sell the club or keep the building for development.

However, yesterday a spokesman for Entrepreneurial Leisure Ltd said the company had decided to get rid of the building.

She said: "A commercial decision has been made. We have put it up on the market to see what kind of interest we get. Then the final decision will be made."
