Drivers were stuck in tailbacks after a nightmare early morning commute on the M62.
Two accidents in heavy rain caused long tailbacks in both directions affecting a substantial section of the motorway.
A van overturned eastbound at junction 26 at Chain Bar. The van hit a barrier and then a lamppost, ending up on its roof. One lane had to be closed.
Tailbacks stretched as far back at junction 22 at Rishworth Moor and the grim weather added to drivers’ misery.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that at least one person had suffered injuries in the accident but that she did not believe them to be life threatening.
The crash happened at 5.42am but recovery work and the normal rush-hour build up of traffic meant delays continued into the morning even after all lanes were re-opened.
Westbound, a vehicle broke down between junction 26 and 27 at Birstall, which led to more queues.
M62 drivers described the commute as one of the worst they had seen in years.
