A JOURNALIST from Huddersfield is the new face of ITV news.

Nina Hossain, 30, originally from Taylor Hill, will make her news reading debut for ITV on the early evening news alongside Mark Austin on Monday.

For the past three years Nina, who now lives in London, has been presenting news for BBC London.

In that time she has built up an army of fans, not all of them focused on current affairs - she has been described by some male admires as the `Asian Angelina Jolie'.

Topics on websites such as Current Bun - a tribute to female news readers - include whether Nina's hair is better long or short and the message boards are full of gushing compliments.

At the end of November she will also be hosting BBC 1's Hard Spell a version of the American spelling bee festivals.

Nina said: "It's a privilege to be given such a great opportunity. I'm delighted to be joining the team."

ITV News editor-in-chief David Mannion said he was excited about having Nina, who started her television career eight years ago on Border Television in Cumbria, joining his team.

He said: "Nina is a very talented journalist and presenter and this was a great opportunity to recruit new talent.

"She will further strengthen the ITV News team of excellent presenters and reporters.

"Nina will be working across all of ITV's network news programmes, including the ITV Evening News with Mark Austin. We are delighted Nina is coming on board."

Nina's father was psychiatrist Tabarek Hossain, originally from Bangladesh, who died on Boxing Day 2002.

He came to Huddersfield in the 1960s and in 1973 set up the Kirklees Alcohol Advisory Service in the town centre.

Nina landed the job with ITV because previous news reader Mary Nightingale is leaving to have a baby.

But Nina is not just concentrating on news.

She has just finished filming a cameo role in a feature film called Trauma starring Bridget Jones star Colin Firth.

However she claims all the waiting around on a film set is not for her and she is happiest in a news room trying to stay calm while everyone around her is panicking.
