A SCHEME to provide free water butts to Kirklees residents is set to get the green light.
The £30,000 plan is likely to be given approval by Kirklees Council’s Cabinet, after being put forward during budget discussions by the Green Party Group.
Leader Cllr Andrew Cooper said: “A similar scheme introduced by Kirkburton Parish Council has been hugely successful, with demand outstripping supply. I am sure that opening up this scheme to residents in other parts of Kirklees will prove equally popular and successful.”
It is anticipated that the money available will pay for 900 water butts and fixing kits, which will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Cllr David Hall, the council’s Cabinet member for green issues, commented: “The scheme very much fits in with the council’s green ambitions. It will help conserve water and reduce carbon impact, as well as directly benefiting residents.
“Once the scheme is finalised and introduced residents will be able to apply by post, online through the Kirklees website or by telephone directly to the supplier.”
More information will be published on when the scheme will be introduced once it is finalised.
