A PETITION calling for traffic weight restrictions on a stretch of road in Upper Cumberworth was handed over at a Kirklees Council meeting.

Tory councillor Jim Dodds called for action after complaints about lorries in Carr Hill Road.

Highways officials have said the number of heavy goods vehicles using the road does not justify it.

Clr Dodds said: "Residents are very concerned for the safety of children walking to and from school or to catch the bus.

"A three-ton weight restriction exists at the top of Carr Hill Road, but not at the village end and it is consequently being used as a rat run by HGVs."
