FLOOD warnings for the River Calder have been lifted, despite predictions for torrential downpours.

The Environment Agency confirmed last night that the river, which flooded last year at Brighouse and Mirfield, is not considered to be at risk.

Late last week officials from the agency were monitoring part of the River Calder.

The River Colne, which flows through Slaithwaite and Marsden, has not been labelled as at risk in the past week.

Nationally since Wednesday, the Environment Agency has made more than 57,000 calls to homes and businesses warning them of the threat of flooding.
