PLANS for a new age travellers' site in Huddersfield have been blocked by Kirklees Council.

But the owners of the Kirkburton land have vowed to re-apply for permission for the site, near their home in Springfield Lane.

Applicant Richard Clegg and his partner, Lesley Diveney, want the one-acre site to be a base for environmental and ecological activists.

The settlement would be for 15 caravans and associated vehicles.

But planners have turned down the application.

They were worried about the suitability of Springfield Lane to accommodate the additional traffic caused by the site.

They were also worried about the impact the site would have on other people living in the area.

The site falls within the council's Kirkburton conservation area.

Mr Clegg said: "The grounds on which it has been refused are oversights.

"I have spoken to the council and I am told I have grounds to re- apply - which is what we plan to do."
