PEOPLE in Huddersfield are being urged to nominate deserving retirees for an award.

Developer McCarthy and Stone has launched its first National Retirement Awards.

The awards aim to celebrate the achievements and contributions made by the over 60s.

People can nominate individuals or groups who have done something worthy of recognition, excelled in their field or gone all out to help their local community.

The closing date for entries is February 29.

Those shortlisted will compete at a regional final in the spring.

The winners will then go through to a national final, where awards will be presented by Olympic athlete Dame Mary Peters.

Steve Secker, regional managing director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “We are looking to celebrate the often overlooked achievements of those people aged 60 or over, many of whom are doing fantastic work in their local communities.

“We want to honour these amazing individuals, so if you know a person or group who have achieved something extraordinary in their later years, get in touch now!”
