ACTRESS Kathy Staff made a special appearance to officially open Holmfirth's most famous residence.

Kathy, who plays battleaxe Nora Batty in the BBC's Last Of The Summer Wine, cut the ribbon at 28 Huddersfield Road.

The house, which has been her screen home since 1973, has been turned into a unique self-catering cottage, sleeping up to six people.

Businessman Neil Worthington, who owns the property, said he had been inundated with requests from fans of the soap who wanted to stay in the cottage.

Fans from Australia, Canada and America have already visited since the property opened its doors in February.

Neil's mum Pauline Littlewood, who prepares the accommodation for new visitors, is often asked if she is the real life Nora Batty, Neil joked.
