LOOKING to get a little bit fitter in the New Year?

A new walking session in Greenhead Park aims to give people the chance to achieve their hopeful resolutions.

Nordic Walking will begin on Friday, January 13, at the park, with the first session including some introductory training on basic techniques.

Nordic or pole walking uses over 90% of the body’s muscles including the upper body.

The use of poles helps propel the walker along, which means they work harder but the support given by the poles makes it feel easier.

The technique is also believed to reduce stress on knees and other joints.

Other sessions are scheduled for January 24, February 10 and 21, March 9 and 23, April 20, and March 4 all at 10.30am.

For those who have not tried Nordic walking previously there is a free half hour session before the scheduled walk time to learn the basic techniques but places must be booked in advance with Diane on 07814 387420.
