STRENUOUS Nordic walking will be introduced next month at Oakwell Hall Country Park.
Anybody wanting to get fit outdoors is invited to join walks at the 110-acre park at Nutter Lane, Birstall, at 10.30am every Wednesday, starting on April 6.
Instruction will be provided and poles can be hired for £1.
Nordic – or pole – walking uses up to 90% of the body’s muscles, making it more invigorating and twice as effective as normal walking.
With correct technique, Nordic walking can burn up to 40 per cent more calories than ordinary walking.
Nordic walking is one of three new walks at the country park organised by Kirklees Council as part of their health walks project.
Weekly rambles will take place at Oakwell at 10.30am every Tuesday from April 5. One is over easy terrain and the other a more demanding walk. Both are free and last for an hour.
