EDWARD Cowley will be sure to put his best foot forward when he takes part in the Great North Run at the end of the month.

Edward, 22, of Ladyhouse Lane, Berry Brow, has just finished a course in Leisure and the Environment at Bangor University. The former Newsome High School pupil is a keen amateur athlete and rowed for his university.

He will be embarking on the 13-mile half marathon on Tyneside for the Stroke Association and has to raise £300 in sponsorship.

He aims to complete the course in just over an hour - hopefully cheered on by his parents Diana and Tony.

He is training hard for the event on Sunday September 26

by running as much as 40 miles a week.

His next aim is to enter the London Marathon in 2005, again to help a charity.
