Club officials at Huddersfield Town are laying on the hospitality for one of its biggest fans – from Norway.

Chef Helge Raknes, 61, will be wined and dined before Town’s Yorkshire ‘derby’ clash against Rotherham United at the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night.

Helge has been a Town fan since 1972, Town’s last season in the top flight of English football, when Norwegian television started to screen matches every Saturday.

He got to see a game with Huddersfield and became hooked. He loved the flamboyant style of striker Frank Worthington but later warmed to the more down-to-earth skills of Andy Booth. Last year he met both.

In an e-mail to the Examiner, Helge said: “I’m looking forward to five days in Huddersfield.

“In 1972 Norwegian TV began sending football from England and one of the matches involved Huddersfield Town in a cup match.

“I liked the colour of the shirt and a great player called Frank Worthington, and since then I have been a Town supporter.

“My first time over here was last September when Town beat Bolton 4-1.

“This was a great experience and everyone at the club was outstanding.”

Town’s hospitality department will be looking after Helge on the night.
