VILLAGERS in Shepley are being asked whether it is time to ring the changes at their local church.

The Rev Joyce Jones, Vicar of St Paul's, wants to know if people would like to hear the church bells more often.

The two bells in the church tower strike just once an hour.

They were barred from sounding every 15 minutes about nine months ago after a number of villagers complained.

Mrs Jones, who has been at the church for four-and-a-half years, said: "We had a couple of people approach us and say they felt every 15 minutes was too much and it was affecting their health.

"One of them was quite persistent."

But the bells have now been restored and are linked to the church clock, which in turn is linked to Greenwich.

Now Mrs Jones wonders whether residents would like to hear more of the tradit- ional English sound.

She said the church was giving everyone the opportunity to have a say.

Mrs Jones added: "It is all done electronically. The bells ring between 9am and 9pm.

"But lots of people like the sound of the bells.

"So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

"I like the sound and it is nice if they ring more regularly.

"It is a lovely thing to hear the bells on a nice summer's day."
