A CHILDREN’S charity has thanked Huddersfield people for their support in raising funds during the Christmas and New Year period.

The NSPCC successfully ran its annual Letter from Santa festive fundraising initiative again this year, giving parents and carers the chance to send someone special a magical letter from Santa for a suggested donation of £5.

Across the UK Santa sent over 192,900 letters in 2010, compared with 147,400 the previous year.

Nationally the campaign has raised £200,000 more than last year, totalling over £1.3 million which will go towards supporting the charity’s national helpline services – ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.

NSPCC local fundraising manager Paul Guanaria said: “We are so grateful to everyone in Huddersfield who supported our Letter from Santa campaign this year.

“Every single donation received through the campaign will help the NSPCC deliver both its local and national services and will make a huge difference for thousands of vulnerable children who so desperately need our support.”
