A CRICKET club plagued by vandals want a new, secure pavilion.
Nuffield Cricket Club were hit several times over by summer by vandals at their Birkby ground.
Now they have submitted plans to Kirklees Council for a modern pre-formed pavilion, which is easier to maintain and vandal-proof.
The club, which has been in existence for 75 years, has been given grants from Kirklees Council and Sport England to improve the clubhouse.
The club, of Birkby Hall Road, Birkby, has been plagued by vandalism since April.
The new building will be a secure cabin which will incorporate dressing rooms, kitchen facilities and a scorebox.
It will be sited in the same location in a corner of the field.
Chairman Max Ahmed said: “The existing buildings are beyond repair so he only option is for the club to replace them with something similar”.
The vandals who struck in the summer smashed windows and pulled off security mesh to get into the building.
They ransacked the kitchen and scattered property all over the field.
A fire was also started in one of the dressing rooms.
