NEW figures show the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) is falling.

In August 2010, some 10.3% of young people aged between 16 and 18 in Kirklees were classed as NEETs.

Four months later the figure had dropped to 7.9%.

Kirklees Council’s overview and scrutiny panel for children and young people will discuss the figures at its meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall at 9.30am on Thursday.

Council officers have also drawn up NEET figures by high school.

Of the Year 11 pupils who left schools in Kirklees last year, 4.07% became NEETs.

Fartown High had the highest percentage – 10.39% – followed by Birkdale High on 7.22% and Newsome High with 6.47%.
