A HUDDERSFIELD children's nursery has been held up as a shining example to others.

An official report said Portland House Private Day Nursery at Lindley had a `can-do' attitude towards children with special needs.

Ofsted's praise came in findings designed to drive up the care of youngsters requiring special attention.

Inspectors visited 42 childcare providers across the country that were judged during their previous inspection as good or outstanding.

Maurice Smith, Ofsted's director of early years, said: "We have seen enough good practice to know that, with the right attitude, support and training, nurseries, playschemes and childminders can provide a high quality service for all children."

The report outlines a number of recommendations for local authorities and the government, including a better relationship between local services and the private and voluntary childcare sector.
