AN OAKES man has appeared in court accused of stealing from a family’s home as they attended a wedding.

Richard Astin, of Weymouth Avenue, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

The bench was told that the occupants of Briarlyn Avenue in Birchencliffe, returned home from a wedding at 1.30am.

They found the front door window had been smashed.

As they looked around the house they discovered that a TV, Nintendo DS and iPod had been taken. The value of the items were estimated at just over £1,000.

The offence was alleged to have happened between October 14 and 15.

Astin, 34, gave no indication of plea.

He will next be before magistrates on November 17 where his case will be heard.

He was remanded in custody and will appear again via a prison video link.
