A MAN has appeared in court charged with sexual assault.
Scott McNeill, of Hebden Court in Oakes, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.
He is accused of sexually touching a woman, who was aged 16 or over, without her consent.
McNeill faces further charges of assaulting a man and criminal damage.
The charges relate to an incident at a Huddersfield pub on November 11, during which a pint glass, a mirror and two buffets were allegedly wrecked.
The 39-year-old appeared in custody after failing to show for a hearing earlier in the week.
Ian Whiteley, for McNeill, told magistrates that his client suffered from mental illness.
He said that when his client failed to attend court he was arrested by police for his own safety.
Mr Whiteley said that he needed further medical evidence about McNeill’s condition before the case could proceed any further.
He added that his client was currently giving no indication as to what his plea to the charges will be.
Magistrates agreed to an adjournment, although they indicated that the cause will be kept in the Huddersfield court.
McNeill will next appear at the court on February 15.
