TWO pensioners were arrested as suspected smugglers after a Customs swoop on their West Yorkshire home. The Todmorden couple, aged 64 and 72, were held by HM Revenue and Customs officers. The raiders found two upstairs rooms filled with goods, including more than 270,000 cigarettes, 238 kilos of hand rolling tobacco, 2,500 cigarillos and 45 litres of vodka. The couple were arrested and have been released on bail pending further investigations. A Customs spokesman said: "The revenue evaded on these excise goods was about £64,500." John Kinghorn, Customs' head of detection for the North East, added:

"This illegal black market trade lines the pockets of criminals instead of funding vital public services."
