PENSIONERS foiled a bogus water worker THREE times.

The man tried to trick his way into the homes of two elderly women on Roman Avenue at Mount and later at the home of an elderly man at Crawthorne Crescent in Deighton.

But each time the quick-thinking pensioners sent him away empty-handed.

Now officers have urged others to follow the same example and never let strangers into their homes.

The man called at the homes of the two in Mount between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday.

He claimed to work for Yorkshire Water and said he needed to go in to check their supplies, but when he was unable to show any identification they turned him away.

He was seen to drive away in a large grey car.

Twenty minutes later he tried the same ploy at the home of the elderly man in Deighton.

Again the man would not let him in the house.

Det Con Gerry Joyce, of Kirklees Police intelligence unit, said: "All three people did extremely well to turn this man away and prevented themselves from becoming victims of crime."

The man is white, aged 17 to 20 with dark hair and wore a navy blue fleece.
