A TEACHER has died just months after she retired.

Carol Wilkinson worked at Mount Pleasant Junior, Infant and Nursery School in Lockwood for 21 years.

The mother-of-two died of breast cancer on November 4 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, aged 61 – just six months after she retired.

Her daughter, Laura Webster, said: “She was a lovely, positive person with a great sense of humour. She never had a bad word to say for anyone.

“My mum was very gentle and patient with the children she taught.”

She was born Carol Agnew in Falkirk in Scotland and grew up in Northumbria.

She moved to Huddersfield aged 18 to study at the Polytechnic.

While there she met her future husband Graham Wilkinson and the couple were married in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

They settled in Paddock and had two children, Laura and Stephen.

Mrs Wilkinson was a keen reader and gardener. She also did pilates and yoga and was a talented pianist.

Mrs Wilkinson’s funeral service takes place at Huddersfield Crematorium on Friday at 1pm.

Her family have asked that any donations in lieu of flowers be made to Macmillan Cancer Support.
