Ivan Dorr worked his way up through an internationally-renowned company to become its chairman.

Mr Dorr, of Fixby, joined Elland fire protection and extinguishers company Nu-Swift just before the Second World War and after becoming a chartered accountant continued being promoted until he became chairman and managing director.

Under his chairmanship Nu-Swift became a public limited company and Mr Dorr received a medal for export to mark the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977. He retired when he was 70.

Mr Dorr was born in Waterbeach, Cambridge, in 1925 but moved to Huddersfield in 1939 after his mother came here.

During the Second World War he served in the Navy’s Fleet Air Arm and received the Burma Star.

Mr Dorr was widowed after 62 years of marriage to Margery and married again in 2013 to Jane Haw.

He enjoyed a great social life and went on many cruises.

Mr Dorr died suddenly at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary of blood poisoning aged 91.

Jane said: “Ivan was the quintessential gentleman and touched many people’s lives.”

The funeral will be tomorrow (Wed, May 18) at Huddersfield Crematorium at 10.30am.
