MRS ELSIE Charlesworth, one of Huddersfield's oldest residents, died at the age of 101.

Mrs Charlesworth, formerly of Netherton and Birkby, was a resident at Lindley Grange Nursing Home, where she died.

She enjoyed a particularly special 100th birthday, as she thought she was only 99!

Mrs Charlesworth discovered she was a century old, only when the nursing home received a letter from the Government's pensions department in December 2002.

Her son, John, said at the time: " It was a surprise but then again it wasn't because she always was a bit cagey about her age and I never saw her birth certificate."

Mrs Charlesworth was married to Lewis, who worked for British Rail. She had two children, one of whom is deceased.
