GWENDOLENE Patricia Hepworth, who has died at the age of 76, will be fondly remembered for her tireless service as a teacher and headteacher.

She began teaching at Mount- joy House School, New North Road, after moving to Huddersfield in 1965. Five years later was made headteacher, a position she held for 17 years.

Mrs Hepworth - known as Pat - was also an active member of St Patrick's RC Church for 40 years.

She was involved with organising Christmas fairs, garden parties and church finances.

She also worked for 30 years on the Peru Commission for the parish and for the diocese, serving as its chairwoman.

Mrs Hepworth was born on March 4, 1928, in Sheffield and was educated at Notre Dame High School.

As a young woman she was a keen tennis and netball player. She was also a member of a local amateur dramatic society and was involved in the Cub Scout movement.

She later became a keen gardener and cook and belonged to two walking groups for 10 years, the Happy Life group and the University of the Third Age.

She passed away in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after a long illness.

She left a husband, Bernard, two children, Dominic and Elizabeth, a grandson, Matthew, sisters Eileen and Dorothy and a brother, Ossie.

Her funeral service was held last Thursday.
