A MUSICIAN who toured the world and who was also a talented crown green bowler has died.

Peter Leah, 78, of Dalton, was dubbed Huddersfield's `Mr Music Man.' He spent nearly 20 years with the Halle and BBC North orchestras as a double bass player.

He played bowls for Springwood in the Huddersfield League and Marsh in the Conservative League.

He also won the Websters Yorkshire Handicap and Dearne and Don Merit.

Mr Leah became a string bass teacher in Huddersfield and his appearances with the Halle took him to America, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland and other countries during his globe-trotting musical tours.

Nearer home, he appeared in the Promenade Concerts at the Albert Hall and in concerts at the Usher Hall during the Edinburgh Festival and in the Royal Festival Hall, London.

He leaves a widow, Cath, and two stepchildren, Sarah and Helen.

His funeral service took place at Huddersfield Crematorium last Friday.
