ONE of Huddersfield’s oldest people has died. Mrs Annie Varley, who lived at Meadow Court care home, Slaithwaite, celebrated her 105th birthday last July.

She was born in Marsden on July 4, 1906, and lived there for the next 100 years.

Annie worked as a weaver and was married to Fred Varley for 40 years. He died several years ago and the couple had a daughter, Barbara.

She was an active member of Marsden Congregational Church and used to accompany blind people on days out.

She lived on Woods Avenue and Wessen Court before moving to Meadow Court Care Home in Slaithwaite six years ago.

She loved telling stories and watching sport on TV at the home.

A funeral service takes place today at Huddersfield Crematorium at 2.45pm.
