HOUSING chief Simon Rogers has defended a decision to close yet more offices.

Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, which manages all council homes in the area, has already closed offices in Heckmondwike, Crosland Moor and Milnsbridge.

The Colne Valley office is the latest to go - and more are likely to follow.

But Mr Rogers claims the closures are good news for customers.

"The majority of our customers contact us by phone and therefore it makes perfect sense for us to put resources into that area," he said.

"Unfortunately this means closing some offices. But it will improve the service.

"Customers also have the option of making an appointment for us to visit them at home, using an estate-based surgery or increasingly using the internet to contact us and make an appointment."

In January Mr Rogers blamed the Disability Discrimination Act for the closure of some offices.

This outraged the Kirklees Disability Rights Network which claimed people with disabilities were being made scapegoats for the closures.

Mr Rogers later claimed he had been misinterpreted.

KNH also confirmed it is planning new service centres, including one in Huddersfield town centre.
