POLICE have been commended for their work on two murder inquiries.

A team, led by Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan, received commendations for their roles in Operation Patio.

That was an investigation into the murder of 33-year-old Billy Khan after he was stabbed in Elland on Friday, August 29, 2008.

At a murder trial, Judge Gullick commended officers.

He said their work had been extensive and had overcome difficulties within the community of those who were prepared to come and explain what had gone on.

Another team of officers, again led by Mr Brennan, were commended for their roles in Operation Polar.

That inquiry saw a 40-year-old man sentenced to life behind bars for the murder of 32-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Mournian, from Huddersfield.

She was reported missing to police in September 2008 and eventually found buried in the cellar of a Birkby house.

The officers were praised by prosecuting barristers for their hard work and assistance in the case. His Honourable Mr Justice Keith also commended those involved in the case for their hard work.
