YOUNG footballers have started to use two new community pitches in Meltham.
Michael Beswick scored the first goal during a tournament to mark the opening of the £30,000 facility in the Robert Ashton Memorial Park.
Meltham Town Council chairman Alan Redfearn performed the official opening ceremony with Huddersfield Town vice chairman Andrew Watson.
The cash for the pitches has been provided by Meltham Town Council and the Meltham Hall Fund.
The Pride in the Park event was preceded by a community clean-up which included clearing paths, planters and the children’s play area.
After the official opening there was a mini tournament and goal shoot-out with refreshments including sandwiches, soft drinks and crisps provided by stores in the village.
