With arguably the most important day of the year just days away, it’s only right Yorkshire Day is marked in the most 21st century of ways.

From a flatcap to a Yorkshire pudding, iconic Yorkshire traditions have been immortalised into emojis.

The thumbnail-sized images can be used in messaging and online.

And while there are emojis of everything from unicorns to Kim Kardashian’s bottom, God’s Own County has yet to be reflected in the keyboard of fame. Until now.

Sheffield-based broadband company Plusnet have created five emojis, and want you to vote for your favourite which will be used on iPhones and Android.

The icons include a cheeky Yorkshire Terrier, a teapot snuggled in a tea cosy and a white rose.

Cleggy’s iconic flat cap and the Sunday roast essential Yorkshire pudding have also been recreated for the keyboard.

Plusnet’s CIO Stew Welbourne, himself a Yorkshireman, says: “Yorkshire Day is a time for us to celebrate our distinctive identity, and what better way to do this than to launch our very own set of emoji based on Yorkshire’s most famous traditions.

“With the existing American-themed emoticons and the recent creation of ‘Londonmojis’, we felt the people of Yorkshire deserve their very own official icon.”

Yorkshire Day is on August 1 and was first celebrated in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society.
