LEISURE chiefs plan to keep Kirklees sports centres open during a one-day strike.

Thousands of council workers are expected to join the national walkout over pensions on March 28.

Kirklees Active Leisure, which runs 10 swimming pools and sports centres for the council, said it was hoping to open as usual on the day.

But there could be some minor changes to the usual activity programmes.

Terry Meehan, KAL's chief executive, said: "We plan to keep all our centres open on March 28 and run our activity programmes to schedule, when possible.

"While we sympathise on the issue of pensions, that dispute is between union members and the Government, not KAL."

Mr Meehan urged customers to check the website www.kirklees activeleisure.co.uk for updated information.
