AN OPERATION to improve people’s quality of life has set its sights on two areas of Huddersfield.

Police and Kirklees Council targeted burglary, car crime and antisocial behaviour this week as part of Operation Focus in Ashbrow and Greenhead wards.

Information packs to help prevent burglaries and vehicle thefts were distributed to residents.

Police, aided by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Vehicle and Operator Service Agency and Customs and Excise, held stop and checks on Halifax Road, Kaffir Road and Bradford Road.

Nine cars were seized when it was found the drivers had no insurance, one passenger was arrested on suspicion of intending to supply cannabis and one vehicle was stopped for allegedly using untaxed ‘red’ diesel.

Another man wanted on a warrant for witness intimidation was arrested.

Clr Peter O’Neill, Kirklees Cabinet member for Safer Stronger Communities, said: “Operation Focus is a great example of the services of Kirklees working together.”
