ELEVEN people are backing a plan to erect a turbine – with eight against.

Margaret Hall wants to set up a 50-kilowatt windmill at Woolrow Farm at Roydhouse near Shelley.

The turbine would be sited 250 metres from the nearest house and would stand 24.6 metres high.

Eleven people have backed the proposal, which they claim will contribute to the fight against climate change without damaging the view of the area.

Eight residents have written to Kirklees Council opposing the turbine, saying it would create a noise nuisance and harm the look of the area.

Kirklees officers back the plan, claiming the energy generated is a “very special circumstance”, meaning the development on green belt land should be allowed.

The council’s Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-committee will decide on the proposal at its meeting at the Dewsbury Rams Stadium at 1pm on Thursday.
