A pub chain which owns three well-known pubs in the Huddersfield area is up for sale.

Orchid, one of Britain’s biggest pub companies, has reportedly been put up for sale with a price tag of up to £300 million.

Orchid, which employs around 6,500 staff across more than 290 pubs and restaurants, is being sold by Deutsche Bank after it took control of the group last year in a debt-for-equity swap.

The group owns The Nag’s Head at Ainley Top, The Three Nuns at Mirfield and The Black Bull at Midgley.

It was launched in 2006 by former owners GI Partners, the private equity firm, which set it up to buy pubs being offloaded by Punch Taverns.

But Orchid went through a pre-pack administration in 2008 after suffering financial woes, when it entered administration before being immediately sold.
