A NEW organ was used for the first time at Parkwood Methodist Church's carol concert.

The choir was led by Gareth Beaumont and accompanied by Ken Rothery on the organ and piano.

The organ was recently purchased from Classical Organs at Moldgreen.

Solo singers included church members Jane Porrett, Janet and Ruth Oakley, Christine Johnson, Charmaine and Rhianydd Beaumont, Barbara Rushforth and Philip McSweeney.

The special guest singer was Laura Crowther, a Huddersfield University music student.

She has just finished playing Maria in West Side Story at Lawrence Batley Theatre.

She is also due to star there again as a bride in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

All proceeds from the concert went towards Home Start Kirklees.

The charity offers practical and emotional support to struggling families with at least one child aged under five.
