HE IS regarded as a rising star among British organists and later this month, Robert Quinney will play in Huddersfield.

Robert, who is sub-organist at Westminster Abbey, will play the lunchtime organ concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on February 25 at 1pm.

He will be remembered by many for the music he played at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

In addition to his daily work at the Abbey, Robert has a busy freelance career as a soloist and ensemble player.

He has also made many recordings including discs of organ music by J S Bach, Elgar, Dupré, Wagner and Brahms plus several CDs with the Choir of Westminster Abbey and period ensemble, The Sixteen.

Robert read music at King’s College, Cambridge, where he was Organ Scholar from 1995 to 1998.

After a year as acting sub-organist at Westminster Abbey, he moved to Westminster Cathedral as Assistant Master of Music in September 2000.

Since returning to Westminster Abbey in 2004 he has performed on concert tours to the United States, Australia and Russia and at several televised services.

He directed the Abbey Choir for the Michaelmas term of 2010 and led première performances of choral works by Richard Rodney Bennett, Jonathan Dove, Grayston Ives and Matthew Martin.

For the last three years, Robert Quinney has been Director of Oundle for Organists, whose courses offer inspiring tuition for young organists.

In Huddersfield, he will play music by Mozart (Adagio and Fugue in C minor), Bach (Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Ehr), Albright (Sweet Sixteenths), Gardner (Five Dances) and Elgar (Pomp and Circumstance March No 5).
