ANOTHER ward is on alert at Calderdale Royal Hospital following a winter bug outbreak.

Four wards were closed earlier this week after patients showed symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea linked to gastroenteritis.

Two of the wards were reopened on Thursday after the infection was reported to be under control.

But today hospital officials confirmed patients were now being restricted on a fifth ward - Ward 6 - after further symptoms were discovered.

People are still being admitted to the medical ward but patients' movements to other parts of the hospital are being restricted.

A spokesman for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust said: "Two wards, 1a and 4c at the hospital remain closed while ward 6 is restricted.

"These wards will remain closed and restricted over the weekend.

"The situation looks to be settling and the wards remain closed to ensure that any infection has cleared. This is in line with national protocol which states that wards should remain closed for 72 hours after the last identified case."

Huddersfield Royal Infirmary continues to be unaffected by the outbreak.
