THERE is an international flavour to the next concert at Hepworth Live.

For the band playing the January 28 concert at the village hall in Hepworth is The Outside Track.

The band’s five members are from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton and Vancouver.

They are united by a love of traditional music and a commitment to creating new music on a traditional foundation.

The band features Norah Rendell from Vancouver on lead vocals and flute, Edinburgh-based Ailie Robertson on harp, Fiona Black from Evanton in the Scottish Highlands on accordion, Cillian Ó’Dálaigh from Limerick, Ireland on guitar, vocals and dance and Cape Breton native Mairi Rankin on fiddle, vocals and dance.

The Outside Track started 2012 in style, winning the Live Ireland Award for Best Instrumental/Vocal Group of 2012 where they were described as: “traditional, creative, and brilliant on every cut”.

Lead singer Norah Rendell also won the prestigious accolade of Vocalist of the Year.

Just back from sell-out tours of Canada, the USA, and Germany, the band is now touring the UK with its blend of Canadian, Scottish and Irish music, song and dance.

Their high-energy set includes a blend of instrumental and vocal skill, talent, flair and intensity, but also the fancy footwork of their two step dancers – Cillian performing Irish Sean nos dance, and Mairi demonstrating traditional Cape Breton stepdance.

The band will record its third album next month

Local duo Fyrish will be the support act at next Saturday’s concert.

Tickets are still available at £10 via the website by ringing 07845 921527.

The music starts at 8pm.
