A SITE mentioned as a potential location for a supermarket is not for sale, say its owners.

Kirklees Council officers had mentioned the site of Bridge Foundry, Bridge Lane, Holmfirth, as potentially suitable for a supermarket.

But council officers, considering the failed Tesco plan to build a supermarket, off nearby New Mill Road, had dismissed the site as unsuitable.

Now, the owners of the site, cast iron makers J and JW Longbottom, have said the location is not for sale.

Managing director Richard Gudgeon has said no plans were discussed between his company, Kirklees Council or a supermarket chain.

He added: “Where this has come from, I know not, as there has not been any discussion on this subject with ourselves, by Kirklees Council or any other party.

“Our long-established business continues to produce cast iron rainwater goods which we supply nationally, and I wish to make it clear to all concerned that our business and its site and premises are definitely not for sale.”
