CRICKET fan Ross Martin enjoyed a game of cricket in his Huddersfield back garden ...

He invited his mates around, lined up a dustbin as the wickets - then challenged four England test stars to a game!

Former top test umpire Dickie Bird was also there, to see fair play.

In all, it was a dream come true for the 20-year-old fan.

Ross, of Little Lepton, was invited to launch the npower Cricket in Your Back Yard 2005 initiative.

He hosted a game against four England cricketers - Steve Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, James Anderson and Paul Collingwood.

They turned up to challenge Ross and his friends to a friendly game of cricket.

The promotion, sponsored by the energy supplier, runs until September 30.

All fans have the chance to win members of the England team to come to a venue of their choice - whether it's their home, school, club or even the office!

Ross said: "I still can't quite believe I had the chance to play against England cricketers in my own back garden.

"I've always fancied my chances against the England opening attack on my home turf but unfortunately local knowledge didn't count for much when Steve Harmison steamed in!"

Kevin Peake, npower's Head of Brand, said: "Cricket in Your Back Yard is a chance for npower to make one lucky fan's dreams come true.

"In such a huge summer for cricket this shows that you can enjoy cricket anywhere. All you need is a love for the game."

The company also sponsors test match cricket.

England opening bowler Harmison said: "My first memory of playing cricket wasn't on a pitch or in the nets but simply using an overturned dustbin with my mates.

"Cricket's a game that can be enjoyed anywhere and this promotion by npower is a great prize for cricket fans."
