FAMILIES which lose a baby describe it as a tragic experience.

But one Paddock family are stepping into action to offer a helping hand.

Dawn Rutherford had a miscarriage at 15 weeks, losing her son Kyle.

It’s through her efforts to help other women in her situation that she met a Liverpool mother whose baby was stillborn.

And now Dawn is doing all she can to help the Megan’s World charity.

The organisation provides financial support to parents who face the high cost of a funeral after having a stillborn baby.

Dawn, a mum of four, said: “A friend of mine who I met online formed the Megan’s World charity after she lost her daughter.

“It’s a registered charity which helps parents who have stillborn babies to provide costs for a headstone.

“They alone can cost £1,000 without the cost of a plot and everything else.

“Megan’s World has 18 babies we’re fundraising for at the moment and we’re doing a sponsored walk to help.”

Dawn runs the Huddersfield branch of the charity and on Saturday, July 31, at 11am, she and 15 others will set off from outside The Butty Shop on Church Street, Paddock. They aim to walk round Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, into the town centre and back again.

They’ll be doing it in fancy dress and will be collecting along the way.

Her husband Mick has even promised to wax his legs if they raise more than £200.
