A MAN injured in a drunken fight hurled abuse at police as they tried to help him, a court heard.

Shaun McManus, of Church Street in Paddock, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He admitted being drunk and disorderly in Huddersfield town centre at 3am on November 16.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that police were called to Byram Court.

A member of the public reported seeing McManus and another male exchanging blows.

The drunken 29-year-old had suffered injuries and police called an ambulance.

Mr Bozman said: “The defendant was verbally abusive (and) jumped out of the ambulance.

“He was told to see paramedics but waved his arms about, shouted and threatened to knock the police officer out.”

The offence put McManus in breach of a conditional discharge given to him in June after he failed to comply with a Football Banning Order.

The father-of-two was fined £165 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
