PAINKILLERS for horses have been stolen - and just a small quantity can kill a person.

The sachets of phenylbutazone - also known as bute - were taken from stables on Red Lane in Meltham on Saturday night.

Det Con Dave Kinghorn, of Kirklees Police, said: "The drug is used as a painkiller for horses, but can be potentially fatal to humans."

About 25 sachets, each containing 30 grams of the drug, were stolen.

The sachets are silver with red writing on them and measure about 3cm by 2cm.

Anyone who finds them should immediately hand them to police.

Anyone who has any information about the theft, or knows where the drugs are, should phone the Huddersfield police helpdesk on 01484 436659 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
