TWO pictures stolen from Huddersfield Railway Station have been recovered.

The paintings, which were wrenched from the wall in an early-morning raid, are back with their owners after being found dumped in the street.

The works were installed at the station earlier this year along with dozens of other pieces as part of Art Station, which aims to bring culture to the travelling public.

Primavera by Batley-based Damian Clark and Studies of a Skull by Mancunian artist Trafford Parsons were taken from the waiting room at 5.30am on Sunday.

The paintings were found dumped on Longwood Road in Paddock at 6.30pm on Wednesday. The pictures were handed in to police, who returned them to the artists.

Bev Addy, who helps organise Art Station, welcomed the find.

“It’s fantastic news for the artists and for Art Station,” she said.

“There’s a lot of work goes into these pieces and it’s great to have these recovered.

“Hopefully the police will catch those responsible to show you can’t just do this reckless vandalism and theft.”

First TransPennine Express offered £250 for information which leads to a conviction.

Anyone with information about the thefts can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
