CARERS in Huddersfield will get the chance to relax and pamper themselves at an event organised to mark National Carers' Week.

A complementary therapy day will be held at the Healing Hands Centre at Broad Lane, Moldgreen, on Tuesday.

The event has been organised by Huddersfield community charities the Wise Women and Phoenix Groups.

National Carers' Week starts on Monday.

Maria Lawrence, co-ordinator for the event, said: "Everyone with caring responsibilities will be very welcome.

"It's an ideal opportunity to meet people in a similar situation, find out more about support available and to have a break."

The event is being paid for by Kirklees Council's Social Services Community Liaison and Carers Gateway.

The event will allow carers to try a range of treatments, including hypnotherapy, relaxation, eyebrow waxing, Swedish and aromatherapy back and neck massage and Shiatsu massage.

The Alexander Technique, a way of correcting bad habits and posture which cause health problems, will also be demonstrated.

Carers can also find out more about chiropractice, medical herbalism, bush flower essences, reflexology, Indian head massage, angelic Reiki positive energy healing, astrology, nutritional therapy and iridology, which involves diagnosing health problems by studying the eyes.

Demonstrations of the Bowen Technique will also be carried out. This is a series of gentle moves on skin which helps the body to relax and reset itself into its natural position.

The event will start at 10am and end at 4pm. There will be a free healthy buffet lunch.
