A MAN was injured in a moorland paragliding accident.

The 50-year-old was gliding around the New Hey Road area of Buckstones at noon yesterday when a sudden gust of wind sent his glider crashing into rocks.

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team was on exercises above Marsden and was told of the accident.

The members responded and found the injured man on rocks about 200 metres from Buckstones car park.

Team leader Peter Phillips said: "He had back injuries and was intermittently unconscious.

"A team casualty care specialist treated him at the scene and he was taken back to the road."

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but was not needed.

An ordinary ambulance took the man to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The man, from Bolton, suffered injuries to his shoulder and back, but they are not life-threatening.
